Before you apply FAQs

Who may apply for these scholarships?

There are many different scholarships with varying criteria. Unless otherwise specified in the “List of Scholarships”, they are intended for students whose families reside in the Greater Cincinnati area (Butler, Clermont, Hamilton and Warren counties in Ohio; Boone, Campbell and Kenton Counties in Kentucky; and Dearborn County in Indiana).

Is there a deadline?

Yes, May 31st. Any application received after that date will not be considered. The application must be date-stamped or postmarked no later than May 31st.

I understand that you administer many different scholarships. How do I apply for all of them?

Only one application is required to be considered for all the scholarships we administer. We take the information you provide on the application and try to match it with a scholarship.

What are the criteria for your scholarships?

Most of our scholarships are need-based. There are a few that are not. In addition to being need-based, some scholarships seek candidates who meet gender, ethnicity, school, major, or athletics requirements, to name a few.

May I go to any school?

You may attend the college or university of your choice as long as it is an accredited, and not-for-profit.

Do I need to be full-time?

Yes, these scholarships require full-time attendance (12 credit hours or better).

When will I find out if I qualify?

The awarding process takes place over the summer and sometimes goes into the school year. Current recipients who have applied to renew their scholarships have first consideration. When the renewal process is complete, we’ll then know what is available for distribution to new applicants. Awarding begins around the first of the summer and goes on until all the money has been distributed.

Are the scholarships need-based?

Criteria for these scholarships are determined by the donors and can be specific, which is why it is important that you complete the application in its entirety. Most scholarships are “need-based”, and help to cover the cost of education after all other federal, state, and campus-based aid have been awarded. To be considered for all CSF scholarships, you must have a proven financial need which can only be determined by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Do I need to complete the application in its entirety?

Criteria for the scholarships are determined by the donors and can be specific, which is why it is important that you complete the application in its entirety.

Do I need any supplemental documents to be considered for a scholarship?

Yes! You will need your unofficial transcript, Resume, Student essay, FAFSA Submission Summary, and Financial Aid Award Letter to be considered for a scholarship.

Do I need a recommendation letter?

You are not required to have a recommendation letter unless, you are eligible for a scholarship that requires a recommendation letter for consideration.

Once you are Awarded FAQs

How was I selected to recieve the scholarship?

You completed an online application and uploaded the required documents on the Cincinnati Scholarship Foundation website earlier this year. You met the eligibility criteria and were selected by the Scholarship Selection Committee of Cincinnati Scholarship Foundation’s Board of Director’s for one or more scholarships that our organization administers.

How are the scholarship awards disbursed?

When you sign your electronic Scholarship Award Letter, complete and sign your Student Information Verification Form and upon receipt of your thank-you note, a payment for half of your scholarship award will be sent to your educational institution if it is on a semester calendar year, one third it is on a quarter calendar year. The second disbursement will be sent upon receipt of your fall term grade report.

What do I need to include in my thank you note?

The donor of the scholarship fund of which you are awarded is named at the top of your Scholarship Award Letter. Writing a thank-you note is not only the right thing to do, but also mandatory. A note, either handwritten or typed, is most appropriate. Use the opportunity to tell your donor a little about yourself and why you are grateful for your scholarship.

What will cause me to forefeit my scholarship?

· Failure to submit your signed Scholarship Award Letter, thank-you note, or your grades.

· Your GPA drops below the minimum requirement. You must contact Cincinnati Scholarship Foundation at info@cincinnatischolarshipfoundation or 513-345-6701 to discuss your academic improvement plan to secure your scholarship for an additional semester.

· You do not update your contact information with Cincinnati Scholarship Foundation when it changes. If we cannot contact you, your scholarship will be revoked.

· Changing financial circumstances, transferring schools, or changing majors can affect your scholarship eligibility. You must contact Cincinnati Scholarship Foundation if any of these changes occur.
